What a week! I raised a barn and attended some regenerative ranching classes (more on those two things later), but on a sadder note, one of our goats had twins though one twin had to be put down due to a broken jaw. :(
So let’s end the week with some good news by announcing a baby goat’s name! World, meet Zoomie. Watch the video below to see why she earned that name.
Zoomie likes hanging out with our goat Nubi and her two kids, Big Spot and Little Spot. Nubi is a Nubian goat (we’re creative with names, lol). I’m not 100% sure what kind of goat Zoomie is — my best guess is 50% Spanish (from her dad) and 25/25% Nubian and Kiko. You can see her mom in the video below — she’s the one with the dark neck/head and spotted back. Zoomie definitely takes more after her mom (sometimes called “dam” in the goat/other critters world) than her dad (“sire”).
Zoomie is the most energetic baby I’ve ever seen. She doesn’t like being petted or touched (but most goats don’t). We’re definitely planning to keep her. She’s a keeper!
We have a small playground for the babies, mostly a few barrels, a half-buried tire, an upside-down tank, and a little teeter-totter. It’s still a work in progress, but the babies (& adults) love it!
I hope you’ve been liking this post! We’ll end on this short video of Zoomie doing a little happy dance. This was right after she was released from her birthing pen, and she was ecstatic!
Zoomie is now out in the field. She’s been loving it out there with her friends and she has lots to climb on. If you have not already subscribed, please do!
Let me know what kind of post you want to see next! I have a few stories of new baby goats, raising a barn, what I learned about regenerative agriculture, and other various goat/donkey updates. Comment below to let me know what you want to see next!
what an active little guy…is it a guy? or gal….beautiful goats!
That tail. She’s brim full of happy to be alive. Maybe carrying extra for the other that didn’t make it.
Was it her twin w broken jaw?
